Permissions

Learn exactly which Discord permissions ReactionBot requires, what each permission is used for, and how missing permissions affect features.

ReactionBot requires several Discord permissions to perform moderation, logging, analytics, events, voting, and role management. Missing permissions are one of the most common causes of commands not working correctly. This guide explains why each permission is needed and which features depend on it.

๐Ÿ‘๏ธ View Channels

Allows ReactionBot to see channels where it is expected to operate.

Required for all moderation, logging, events, voting, analytics, dashboard rules, and slash commands.

Without this permission, ReactionBot cannot access the channel and none of its features will function there.

๐Ÿ’ฌ Send Messages

Allows ReactionBot to respond to commands and post messages.

Used for slash command responses, diagnostics, reports, event announcements, voting panels, role setup, and logger messages.

Without this permission, ReactionBot may process commands but will be unable to send responses.

๐Ÿงต Send Messages in Threads

Allows ReactionBot to communicate inside Discord threads and forum posts.

Required whenever commands or features are used inside a thread.

๐Ÿ“Ž Attach Files

Allows ReactionBot to upload files when required.

Used for diagnostics, exported reports, analytics, images, and future downloadable content.

๐Ÿ“– Read Message History

Allows ReactionBot to read existing messages in a channel.

Required by commands such as /remove, /count, /leaderboard, /topreactor, diagnostics, and other scanning features.

Without this permission, scanning-based commands may fail or return incomplete results.

๐Ÿ˜€ Add Reactions

Allows ReactionBot to place reactions on messages.

Used by Events, Voting, verification systems, reaction menus, and future interactive features.

๐Ÿ›ก๏ธ Manage Messages

One of ReactionBot's most important permissions.

Allows ReactionBot to remove reactions that violate Block, Allow Only, Restrict, Limit Reactions, and Remove rules.

Without this permission, ReactionBot can detect reactions but cannot remove them.

๐ŸŽญ Manage Roles

Allows ReactionBot to assign and remove Discord roles.

Required for Roles Lab, Join Roles, Verification, and future automatic role features.

ReactionBot's role must also be positioned above the roles it needs to manage.

๐Ÿ“œ View Audit Log

Allows ReactionBot to access Discord's audit log.

Used by logger-related features and future moderation improvements where audit information is available.

โš ๏ธ Role Hierarchy

Discord's role hierarchy overrides bot permissions.

If a member's highest role is above ReactionBot's highest role, Discord will prevent ReactionBot from moderating that member's reactions or roles.

Always place the ReactionBot role above the members it needs to manage.

๐Ÿฉบ Troubleshooting Permission Problems

Run /diagnose in the affected channel to quickly identify missing permissions.

Also verify channel-specific permission overrides, as they can prevent ReactionBot from working even when server permissions appear correct.

If a feature works in one channel but not another, the issue is almost always a channel permission override.
