Global Rules
Learn how Global Rules apply reaction moderation across your entire server and how they interact with channel-specific rules.
Global Rules provide server-wide reaction moderation. Instead of configuring every channel individually, you can create a single set of rules that automatically applies across your server, making moderation faster and easier to manage.
What Global Rules Do
Global Rules apply the same reaction moderation settings across your server.
They are designed for communities that want consistent moderation without creating identical rules in every channel.
Once enabled, supported channels automatically inherit the configured rules unless they have been configured to ignore them.
Server-Wide Protection
Global Rules allow you to manage reaction behavior from one central location.
Instead of maintaining dozens of individual channel rules, a single global rule can provide consistent moderation throughout your community.
This greatly reduces administrative work as your server grows.
Available Rule Types
Global Rules support Block, Allow Only, Limit Reactions, and Restrict Users.
Each rule functions the same as its channel-based equivalent but applies across the server instead of within a single channel.
Multiple global rules can be active at the same time.
Creating Global Rules
Open the Reaction Control dashboard and navigate to the Global Rules section.
Choose the rule type, configure its settings, and add the rule.
After saving your changes, ReactionBot immediately begins enforcing the new server-wide behavior.
Working with Channel Rules
Global Rules and Channel Rules are designed to work together.
Most channels will inherit Global Rules automatically while still allowing additional channel-specific rules when needed.
If a channel requires completely different behavior, you can enable Ignore Global for that channel.
Best Practices
Use Global Rules for moderation policies that should remain consistent throughout your server.
Reserve Channel Rules for exceptions, such as announcement channels, support channels, or event channels that require different behavior.
Keeping global moderation simple makes your server easier to manage over time.
Disabling Global Rules
Global Rules can be disabled at any time from the Reaction Control dashboard.
Disabling Global Protection immediately stops server-wide enforcement.
Existing rules remain saved and can be re-enabled later without recreating them.
Required Permissions
ReactionBot requires View Channels, Read Message History, and Manage Messages in channels where Global Rules are enforced.
If the bot cannot manage messages in a particular channel, it will be unable to remove reactions there even if a Global Rule exists.
Troubleshooting
If a Global Rule does not appear to be working, verify that Global Protection is enabled in the dashboard.
Check whether the affected channel has Ignore Global enabled, as those channels intentionally bypass server-wide rules.
If problems continue, run /diagnose in the affected channel and verify ReactionBot has the required permissions.
