Countdown & Duration
Learn how event countdowns and durations work in ReactionBot Events.
Every ReactionBot event includes a configurable duration and a live Discord countdown. Countdown timers automatically update for every member, making it easy for your community to see when an event starts or ends without requiring manual updates.
Event Duration
The duration determines how long an event remains active after it begins.
Once the timer reaches zero, ReactionBot automatically closes the event and performs any configured end actions.
Countdown Modes
ReactionBot supports two countdown display modes that control what members see within the event message.
Choose the mode that best fits the purpose of your event.
Starts In
The 'Starts In' countdown displays the remaining time until the event begins.
This mode works especially well for scheduled launches, giving members advance notice before participation opens.
Ends In
The 'Ends In' countdown displays how much time remains before the event closes.
This creates a sense of urgency by showing members exactly how long they have left to participate.
Live Discord Timers
ReactionBot uses Discord's built-in timestamp formatting to generate live countdowns.
Every member sees the remaining time automatically updated based on their own local timezone without requiring the message to be edited continuously.
Choosing a Duration
Short events are useful for flash giveaways, stream announcements, and quick community activities.
Longer durations work well for larger giveaways, watch parties, community challenges, and scheduled events where members may join throughout the day.
When the Timer Ends
After the countdown reaches zero, the event automatically finishes and moves to its completed state.
If an end action has been configured, ReactionBot performs it immediately after the timer expires.
