Channel Rules

Learn how channel rules allow each channel to have its own independent reaction moderation settings.

Channel Rules allow you to create reaction moderation settings that apply only to a specific channel. Each channel can have its own combination of Block, Allow Only, Limit Reactions, and Restrict Users without affecting the rest of your server.

What Channel Rules Do

Channel Rules apply only to the channel where they are created.

This allows different areas of your server to behave differently depending on their purpose.

For example, an announcements channel may only allow a few approved reactions, while a general chat channel allows almost everything.

Independent Channel Configuration

Each channel stores its own collection of reaction rules independently.

Adding or removing a rule from one channel does not change the configuration of any other channel.

This makes it easy to customize moderation throughout your server.

Available Rule Types

Channel Rules support every core Reaction Control feature.

You can block specific emojis, create Allow Only rules, limit the number of reactions a member may add, or restrict individual users from reacting.

Multiple rules can exist within the same channel when needed.

Creating Channel Rules

Open the Reaction Control dashboard and select the channel you want to configure.

Choose the type of rule you want to create, provide the required information, and add the rule.

Once saved, ReactionBot immediately begins enforcing the new settings in that channel.

Channel Rules and Global Rules

By default, channel rules work alongside any Global Rules that are enabled for your server.

This allows you to create server-wide protection while adding additional rules for specific channels.

If necessary, a channel can be configured to ignore Global Rules entirely using the Ignore Global option.

Free and Premium Features

Channel Rules are available on both the Free and Premium plans.

Premium primarily expands server-wide moderation through Global Rules, while channel-based moderation remains available to all communities.

Some advanced moderation options may require Premium depending on the feature being used.

Best Practices

Only create rules where they are actually needed rather than applying identical settings to every channel.

Use descriptive moderation that matches each channel's purpose, such as stricter rules for announcements and more relaxed settings for community discussion.

Review channel configurations periodically as your server grows.

Managing Existing Rules

Channel Rules can be removed, updated, or disabled from the Reaction Control dashboard.

Changes take effect immediately after saving.

Removing a rule only stops future enforcement and does not restore reactions that were previously removed.

Required Permissions

ReactionBot requires View Channels, Read Message History, and Manage Messages in channels where reaction moderation is enabled.

If the bot cannot manage messages, it will be unable to remove reactions even if the rule exists.

Troubleshooting

If a channel rule does not appear to be working, confirm the channel is enabled and that the correct rule has been created.

Check whether the channel is using or ignoring Global Rules, as this may affect the expected behavior.

If problems continue, run /diagnose in the affected channel and verify that ReactionBot has the required permissions.
